November 16, 1953, just a few months after the Korean War ended, my grandparents got married.  I think people at the time thought demarcation would be temporary but my grandfather ended up never seeing the rest of his family in the North again. What crazy times it must’ve been. Despite all that, they started a family and lived happily ever after. When my beautiful 할미 was diagnosed with cancer and refused chemo, she said she had no regrets. That she had a good life. That she was most proud of her family. And it’s a great reminder of where I come from, as we deal with our own kind of crazy in these uncertain confusing times.
